How can I migrate from PST/MAPI to PST/MAPI with Aid4Mail 4

Sometimes you might want to use Aid4Mail to migrate or convert mail from PST or MAPI to PST or MAPI. Perhaps because you want to use Aid4Mail's search and filtering options to narrow down the amount of mail you want to migrate, you have a couple of PST files that you want to combine, or you are migrating to a new version of Outlook and you want Aid4Mail to do the hard work for you.

If you are performing a large-scale migration (using Aid4Mail Migrator) or you are using Aid4Mail Forensic or Service, you can do this directly using the Aid4Mail Console or Console Launcher. In Aid4Mail version 5, you can convert between PST/MAPI directly within the GUI interface.

However, if you are using Aid4Mail Professional this option doesn't exist and you will need to perform this migration/conversion in two steps:

Step 1: Convert PST/MAPI to MSG

  1. Select PST or MAPI as your source format
  2. Aid4Mail will find your PST file automatically, just double-check it's the right one if there is more than one PST file on your computer. If you have selected MAPI, select the right profile.
  3. Select any filtering options you wish, or deselect "filter source messages" if you don't wish to do any filtering
  4. Select MSG as your target format
  5. Choose your target location
  6. Ensure "restore source mail folder structure" is selected
  7. Start your conversion

Step 2: Once your MSG files have been created, you will need to convert these to PST/MAPI

  1. Select MSG as your source format
  2. Select the MSG files you have just created
  3. Select any filtering options you wish, or deselect "filter source messages" if you don't wish to do any filtering
  4. Choose PST or MAPI as your target format
  5. If PST: Choose the folder location and file name. If you wish to append (merge) your PST to an existing PST, enter the file name of this existing PST file. In the next screen, select "append messages to target mailbox file". Ensure "restore source mail folder structure" is selected.
  6. If MAPI: Select the MAPI profile and message store you wish to migrate to. Leave the message store section blank if you don't know the message store name. Select the target mail folder for your mail. Ensure "restore source mail folder structure" is selected.
  7. Start your conversion

Now you should see your email stored either as a PST file, or within your Outlook profile. If you have trouble seeing your mail, please refer to this article: why can't I see my mail in Outlook?
